Valentines Cat

Happy Valentine's Day from Dodger and Me

Dodger is a Valentines cat!

When he gives you a look like this . . . love is in the air.

I don’t mean the amorous kind he might have toward fancy female felines who flirt, swishing their sassy tails as they sashay by as if strolling down a red carpet catwalk.

I’m talking about “Purr-fect Love”. . .

. . . the kind Dodger has for me.

Some cats are of the one-person purr-suasion. That’s Dodger. He chose me. I’m the human he’s bonded with; everyone else he merely tolerates.

He’s a very emotionally dependent kitty, but that is not readily apparent to others because he uses his tough wild instinct-side as a cover for what he considers his vulnerability . . . his love for me.

When I am gone, he’s terribly despondent. No one can fill that void . . . and he lets everyone know it.

“Yerow!” He complains and whines. “Where’s Mama? I’m lost without her. I can’t think straight; I can’t think at all.”

Remember the character, Linus, in the comic strip “Peanuts” by Charles Schultz? When Linus loses his security blanket, his whole world comes crashing down.

That’s Dodger when he doesn’t know where I am.

I love our reunions. He trots across the yard to greet me, hailing from one of his hidden nests buried deep in our forested hedgerows.

“Meow-Ma! Meow-Ma!” (Mama, Mama)

While I affectionately scratch his head he tells me all about how abandoned he felt, how glad he is to see me and all about his latest adventures.

Then, we have what I call a “love-fest”. Lots of petting, grooming, purring and other kitty love behaviors.

More than anything, it’s that look he gives me . . . total adoration. When I look into his golden eyes I see to the depths of his heart.

Purr-fect Love!

Dodger and I wish you a very Happy Valentine’s Day!

“Today I begin the cat diary I’ve been pawndering about. While I’m a cat of few meows, and those are whisker quiet at best, I’m full of wiles and wistfulness. . . “

Did you know each kitty nose is as unique as each owner’s finger print is? Human finger prints are composed of ridges arranged in a signature pattern; no two are alike. So, are snowflakes . . . so, are cat noses!

Feline Fun!

I’ve loved cats for as long as I can remember. As a girl one of my favorite shows was an animated comedy about a suave swindler . . . "Top Cat". While the series had a short run 1961-1962, it remains a classic with a devoted following.
